Volunteering at the Carrifran Wildwood
Location: Meet at the Carrifran Wildwood car parkDate: 21-Mar-2010 - 10am - 4pm
Details: The Car Park is on the A708, 7 miles NE of Moffat and 2 miles SW of the Grey Mare's Tail. NGR NT 159116. Help to restore a Wildwood to the Carrifran Valley. Tree planting, fence removal, tree guard removal, etc. Fantastic scenery and wildlife. Bring a packed lunch and snacks, outdoor gear (including waterproofs) and boots. Suitable for adults and children accompanied by adults. Rough and steep ground. Opportunities for Ecological Restoration Conference

Details: The hot topic of ecological restoration comes under the microscope on 25th March at Peebles Hydro Hotel, when Borders Forest Trust (BFT) hosts a one-day special conference. Speakers include James Aronson from the Center for Functional and Evolutionary Ecology (CNRS) in Montpellier, France, where he serves as head of the Restoration Ecology Group, Dave Fairlamb of RSPB, Des Thomson of Scottish Natural Heritage, Rob Soutar from Forest Enterprise Scotland, and Alastair Laverty from the Tweed Forum as well as BFT Director Willie McGhee who’ll be discussing the Trust’s vision for restoring the Ettrick Forest.
Some of the topics being discussed include restoration in the Galloway Hills, farming for biodiversity and floodplain restoration. Fee per person: £55 (BFT members & community groups £40, students/unwaged £15; price includes lunch) and are available direct from BFT. The conference is supported by Scottish Natural Heritage.

Green Woodworking Weekend (29 & 30 May)

Details: It's time for another re-run of Wooplaw's Green woodworking weekend. Why not make a pole-lathe or a shaving horse, carve a spoon or do your own thing with other green woodworkers.
